ANNUAL REPORT (2021-2022) 

The NSS Unit of Nirmal Degree College of Commerce has been very actively organizing number of activities with the motto “not me but you”. We appreciate the involvement of all our N.S.S. volunteers in various activities which were possible because of the leadership and guidance by none other than Prof. Sushil Shinde, N.S.S. District Coordinator, University of Mumbai. The NSS Unit of Nirmal Degree College of Commerce is led by two Programme Officers : Dr. Kiran Gajjar (Vice Principal) & Ms. Sajida Shaikh (Asst. Prof).

The NSS Unit of the college conducted a number of activities during the academic year 2021-2022.

Regular Activities:

Gandhi jayanti program

Date : 2 October 2022
Place : Nirmal Degree College of Commerce
We celebrated Gandhi Jayanti On 2 nd October, 2022 in our College. It was an online function .

We understood the story of mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2 nd October annually to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly called Mahatma Gandhi and regarded as the Father of the Nation. This year marks the 152 birth anniversary of Gandhi, who was born in Porbandar, Gujarat on 2 October 1869. His contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is unparalleled, with Gandhi being the architect of several mass movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement.

CAMPUS CLEANING PROGRAM

Swachh bharath Abhiyan.
As part of the Swachh Bharath mission it was decided to conduct a campus cleaning drive. All students were divided into four groups and each group was given different areas. Students and staff including the Principal took part in the cleaning program. Swachh Bharath Mission was conducted weekly in our college and adopted area.

Beach Cleaning Campaign by NSS Volunteers

Place : Juhu Beach Cleaning

To clean the surroundings of the beach and create awareness among the tourist to keep the beach area clean, NSS volunteers of our college have participated on 29 th November, 2021 NSS volunteers removed the debris from the beaches and collected its data to prevent such pollution in future. They also spread awareness campaign to the visitors to use dust bin etc. to reduce the waste. Large number of plastic covers and wastage were collected by the students and kept the beach area clean and neat. Total number of 45 students participated in the program.

E-Waste Collection

Date : 11 December 2021
Place : Nirmal Degree College of Commerce

A workshop was organized on the importance of safeguarding environment through various means; one of which being installation of e-waste mechanism in the college premises. For the said purpose the Rotary club President Ms. Bhavna Bhadreshwara, members Viz. Mr. Bhavin Toprani, Mr. Vipul Gaglami, Ms. Reenu Walvi, and Ms. Prithika Samani were present. The session began with the introduction of guests by Dr. Sonali Nandu followed by the Vice Principal Dr. Kiran Gajjar felicitating them. One after the other the club members spoke on the necessity of installation of e-waste disposal system in the college campus. The session was an interactive one wherein they involved students in the said discussion and also questioned them regarding the issue. They spoke about the hazards posed by disposal of waste of electronic and other such products within the natural surroundings of environment. The  session ended with a thanks giving speech by Dr. Sonali Nandu expressing her gratitude towards the guests for having shared their valuable knowledge with all. The session was followed by inauguration of e-waste disposal bin in the college campus.

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti

Date : 19 February 2022
Place : Nirmal Degree College of Commerce

We celebrated Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on 19 th February, 2022 in our College. Many students participated gave their speech on Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti Shivaji turned out to be a born leader from a very young age. An active outdoorsman, he explored the Sahayadri Mountains surrounding the Shivneri forts and came to know the area like the back of his hands. By the time he was 15, he had accumulated a band of faithful soldiers from the Maval region who later aided in his early conquests.

Road March

NSS Volunteers participated in Road March, working on Road Traffic issues mainly on the Development Plan (D.P) 1967/1991/2034 where we identified the missing link because of slums, Private lands, and Government lands (Forest, FCI, Airport Authority, and Army Cantonment). In Western Suburbs between Bandra and Dahisar, approximately 50% of the roads are blocked. Only three roads connecting South Mumbai to North Mumbai.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATION:

As part of International Yoga Day celebration, the volunteers participated in the Yoga organized in the College premises. International Yoga Day celebration was inaugurated by Principal Y. S. Kadam, Volunteers Collectively did yoga for 2 hrs.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY PROGRAMME

Our NSS volunteers actively arranged and participated in a seminar organized by Women Development Cell. The chief guest was honoured with ‘potted plant’ by our CEO and Secretary. The session continued with an inspirational talk by the Principal, Dr. Y. S. Kadam. He pointed out the importance of being a strong woman in the society. She reminded the group that women  empowerment is not just limited to dominating men, but flourishing with the oppurtunities with what we have.

Tree Plantation

Every man needs the oxygen for their life and Trees are the foremost source of oxygen as well trees help to reduce the level of co2. As we all know that the whole world is facing the problem of global warming and to recover from such problem planting the trees has become one of the most important today’s  aspects. The NSS Unit of Nirmal Degree College organized “Tree Plantation” programme “MY EARTH – MY DUTY” under the National Service Scheme (NSS). On, 21th March, 2022 at Nirmal Degree College near BMC Office, kandivali.

VENUE: Nirmal Degree College of Commerce

The NSS unit in the College enrolls students as per the NSS guidelines and directions of the University of Mumbai. This Scheme gives an opportunity to students to develop organizational skills, leadership qualities and a sense of social consciousness. An NSS student is required to complete 120 hours of work to be eligible for 10 grace marks.

There are two types of activities: Regular Activities (120 hours) and Annual Special Camp. All the NSS Volunteers who have served NSS for at least 2 years and have performed 240 hours of work under NSS are entitled to a certificate from the university under the signature of the Vice-Chancellor and the Programme Coordinator. The Annual camps are known as Special Camps.

The programme aims to instill the idea of social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. It also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster’s victims.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

  • Understand the community in which they work
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  • Practice national integration and social harmony
