Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Every year, we celebrate International Yoga Day on 21st June, since its inception in the year 2015. It has been a practice of our institution to give importance to Yoga and meditation as it gives several benefits to the one who is a regular practitioner.
This year also we celebrated Yoga Day on 21st June. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Dave on the topic ‘Yin Yang’. In Chinese philosophy, yin yang describes how opposite or contrary forces may actually be interconnected and interdependent in the natural world. The word in come out to mean ‘shady side’ and yang ‘sunny side’. It also explains how each and every factor in interrelated. He delivered an interesting and knowledgeable lecture on Yin Yang. She explained that yin and yang can be thought of as complementary rather than opposing forces. Everything has both yin and yang aspects for instance there cannot be shadow without light, there cannot brightness without darkness and so on . Yin Yang are the two halves that together complete wholeness. Yin represents the feminine energy whereas yang represents the masculine energy. He also stressed on clarifying that nothing is completely yin or completely yang. The nature of yin and yang flows and changes with time. A simple example is thinking about how the day gradually flows into the night. This lecture not only helped everywhere to gain knowledge about yin yang but also to utilize this concept in their day to day lives to create balance. The workshop ended with some deep breathing meditation and basic yoga asanas.
The session was attended by students amongst whom were male and female students. All enthusiastically participated & looked keen to learn various techniques taught by Mr. Dave. The session was successful one which displayed a great spirit of learning by staff members and students alike. The session ended by a formal vote of thanks delivered by the head of Sports Department Mr. A.P. Singh.
